Michael J. Petrizzi, MD, an original founder of Hanover Family Physicians and our Medical Director, has been setting the highest standards of excellence in medical practice for over 25 years. Dr. Petrizzi’s special interests include Full Service Family Medicine and Sports Medicine. He is dedicated to providing his patients with the most comprehensive, compassionate and up to date care possible. He feels blessed to have played a role in health care of multiple generations of families in Hanover County and the Greater Richmond Area.
He earned his undergraduate degree at Adelphi University in Garden City, New York, and his medical degree at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn before completing a family practice residency and a faculty development fellowship at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
Dr. Petrizzi has served as the Atlee High School Team Physician since it opened in 1991. He has co-developed the SMART (Sideline Management Assessment Response Techniques) Workshop. He also serves on the VHSL Sports Medicine Advisory Committee, as well as, on the Hanover County Concussion Management Team. Dr. Petrizzi has edited and been a contributing author to several publications including Sports Medicine for Coaches and Trainers. He teaches Workshops on a variety of Sports Medicine topics annually at the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Medical Society of Sports Medicine , National Provider Identifier & Virginia Academy of Family Physicians meetings and is the Chairman of the VCU Sports Medicine Conference. He also serves as one of the Team Physicians for the VCU Rams.
When not in the office, Dr. Petrizzi enjoys physical fitness, outdoor activities, travel, and spending time with his wife and three children.
